Now, then, let’s get into some select new releases from FRIDAY, JUNE 13th, 2025, and let us know if we missed anything worth hearing!
::THE KNOWNS::
Buckcherry ::ROAR LIKE THUNDER:: Sleaze-rock lives.
Dierks Bentley ::BROKEN BRANCHES:: One of the few tolerable top 40 country acts imho. Bentley’s latter output is suffering from the beige, slick Nashville production, but he’s still choosing decent songs given so much dreck that’s in the top 40 country orbit. Also, he’ll always get a pass from me after this promo photo in a sleeveless Whiskeytown t-shirt.
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard ::PHANTOM ISLAND:: Honestly, I can’t believe we’re halfway through the year and this is King Gizzard’s first release in 2025. This opening cut makes me want to pull out some old Uriah Heep records…
Murder By Death ::EGG & DART:: Orchestral, goth-y Americana influenced by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds and Johnny Cash.
Neil Young & the Chrome Hearts ::TALKIN TO THE TREES:: Rage Against the Machine-style political angst set to Neil Young music.
Slick Rick ::VICTORY:: Slick Rick tha RULAH, aka MC Ricky D is back!
::THE NEWS::
The Bug Club ::VERY HUMAN FEATURES:: The UK outfit’s 4th overall record and second with Sub Pop is described on their Bandcamp bio as such: “An assured and endlessly witty whirlwind of literary, self-referential, good-humoured rock ‘n’ roll, the new record sees the band riding their ever-swelling wave of popularity as if it’s a quick whizz around the Caldicot Aldi carpark on a pair of rollerskates. Long may it continue.” This record sounds like a lot of fun. It’s bouncy, melodic, garage-y, and altogether rockin.
Hot Mustard ::MONSTER SESASON:: Hot Mustard answer the question “what if the ‘Dap Tone’ sound was based out of South Carolina instead of New York, and leaned more heavily on influence from the Meters?” This probably shouldn’t be as good as it is. (Also, my new release aggregator mislabeled the record title as MUSTARD SEASON and I really, really wish this record was called MUSTARD SEASON).
Subsonic Eye ::SINGAPORE DREAMING:: The bandcamp bio of this Singaporean jangle-pop quintet reads: “Singapore Dreaming still has all of Subsonic Eye’s signature elements: spellbinding walls of tone, hooky riffs, zippy rhythms, and punches in the perfect place — all led by singer Nur Wahidah’s dreamlike voice, whose vaporous and velvety character always makes the layers whole.” One of the best releases I’ve heard this week.
