Playing catch-up today as I've been spending my past several Friday's either on my annual fishing trip to Virginia with my family, or working and volunteering with organizations that are helping with Western North Carolina disaster relief efforts. About that, here's the link again from an NPR affiliate in Western NC with a great list of places you can donate where the money will directly help those most in need. Please help if you're able. Anyway, brother, here's the quick hits on interesting releases from Friday October 11th, 2024.
Weekly Reminder: I've created monthly spotify playlists to aggregate all the links shared in this running thread. I'm making a conscious effort to improve wheat:chaff ratio of these playlists this year. ProTip: Save these playlists in your Spotify app for easy access. Since it's October, there's a new playlist below. Take note!

Let me know what I missed.
::THE KNOWNS::
CharliXCX ::BRAT AND IT'S COMPLETELY DIFFERENT BUT ALSO STILL BRAT:: Fuck yeah, Charli. Capitalize on brat summer.
The Chesterfield Kings ::WE'RE STILL ALL THE SAME:: According to Steven Van Zandt, the Chesterfield Kings invented garage rock.
Dawes ::OH BROTHER:: A record by the brothers' Goldsmith about the brothers' Goldsmith. Hate all you want, I still love this band.
Justin Moore ::THIS IS MY DIRT:: Neo-traditional country from the Native Son of Poyen, Arkansas.
The Linda Lindas ::NO OBLIGATION:: Buncha dang punk kids.
::THE NEWS::
Ariella ::CRYBABY: I feel bad always comparing new, indie-folk artists to Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus, but I think these artists are *clearly* an influence on a lot of female songwriters. Ariella seems to fit this mold. And there is a song with an acoustic guitar fitted with a rubber bridge on it (iykyk). But an added bonus - at least on the opening cut of CRYBABY - is some subtle, sad pedal steel guitar. The tunes seem appropriately ethereal, and it's just nice. Listen to this record!
Delta Sleep ::BLUE GARDEN:: Math rock. Slide rules and a TI-86 are suggested to accompany your listening.
Smooth Brain ::I WONDER WHAT I'VE MISSED:: Pop-forward, queer-positive punk band with members from VA, Philly, and NY (I think I got that right).
Touche Amore ::SPIRAL IN A STRAIGHT LINE:: Jesus Christ this one comes in punching. This band answers the question "What if Sparta and Thursday formed a supergroup?"
